China trademark docs
Reference answers for planning, filing, monitoring, and maintaining a China trademark application.
Before you file
Settle the owner, exact mark, and filing scope before the brand is exposed. China generally gives the earlier applicant the stronger position; first-to-file, classes and items, and filing requirements answer those three decisions.
A foreign applicant without habitual residence or a place of business in China generally uses a legally established trademark agency for a direct filing. Verify the recorded entity and compare the agency rule with Madrid versus direct filing when choosing a route.
After you submit
CNIPA examines, publishes, and then registers an approved application if no issue prevents it. See After you file for the stages and the dated timeline reference for duration expectations.
Official notices carry the actual application record. Ginbing posts the Chinese original and English translation for notices received; CNIPA official notices, explained explains delivery, while the refusal guide covers the short review and division deadlines.
Long term
A registration runs for ten years from its registration date. Keep the certificate, use evidence, and renewal date together; China trademark renewal explains the renewal window, grace period, and non-use risk.
