Before you file

China generally gives the earlier applicant the stronger position. The first-to-file rule explains why the China filing date matters before launch or supply-chain exposure.

Start from what your brand actually sells or genuinely plans to sell. Search goods or services, then choose the matching entries. Ginbing prices each selected class separately. Trademark classes and items explains it.

For worked examples, Choosing the right class for your product maps common products and services to likely classes without replacing exact item selection.

You'll need applicant details, an identity document, your mark, and a filing authorization. What you need to file lists everything Ginbing asks for.

Foreign applicants without habitual residence or a place of business in China must appoint a legally established trademark agency. The foreign-applicant agency rule explains the qualifier and how to verify Ginbing’s recorded filing entity.

For multi-country portfolios, Madrid Protocol or direct CNIPA filing compares the two routes without assuming one is always cheaper.

After you submit

CNIPA examines your application, publishes it for opposition, then registers it. After you file walks through each stage.

A smooth application often takes about 7 to 9 months. The China trademark timeline explains the estimate and what can extend it.

Official notices arrive along the way. Ginbing posts the original and an English translation for official notices received, and flags a deadline when the notice carries one. CNIPA official notices, explained covers the common ones.

If CNIPA refuses the application, the notice starts a short response period. Responding to a CNIPA refusal explains the decision point and the review procedure.

Long term

A registration lasts ten years from the registration date. China trademark renewal explains the renewal window, grace period, and non-use consideration.
